Noxon tops TFalls

Noxon avenged an early season loss over their cross-class, inter-county rival Thompson Falls with a thrilling, 62-59 overtime win on Saturday. Each team is now gearing up for their respective district tournaments as they head into the final weekend of the regular season.

Late in the fourth quarter, it looked as if Noxon had the game well in hand, as they led by 11 with less than two minutes to play, but the District 7-B Bluehawks stormed back, forcing the extra session.

The Red Devils hit four of their seven free throw attempts in overtime to come away with the win.

Jordan Eichert was 5 for 8 from down town, finishing with 21 points to lead Noxon. Travis Tammarro, 15, and Tyrell Wilkinson, 11, also scored in double figures. Neal Jopling scored eight points, Jesse Linderman six and Banks Stocking one for the Red Devils.

Challis Wilson,17, Jaron Laws, 14, and Cody Phillips, 12, led a balanced offensive attack by Thompson Falls. AJ Pavlik added nine points, Garrett Reinschmidt five and Sky Hall two in the loss for the Bluehawks.

Noxon rode a tidal wave of momentum into their matchup with Thompson Falls. A 67-23 win the previous day, marked the second time this season the Red Devils have defeated St. Regis by 40 points or more.

Stocking led Noxon with 17 points in the conference win. Wilkinson contributed 13, Tamarro 11, Jesse Linderman 10, Eichert nine, Jopling three and Johnie Carter and Oliver Grubenhoff two points each.

Jarrod Tippens led the winless Tigers (0-10, 0-15) with 11 points.

The wins helped Noxon improve to 4-4 conf, 5-10 ovr. The Red Devils hold a half-game advantage over Two Eagle River (4-5, 7-10) for third place in the District 14-C race.

This week, the Red Devils will host Hot Springs on Thursday for their senior night, before traveling to Arlee for their final regular season game on Friday.

The Blueahawks also came away with a win on Friday, winning 71-60 over Class C Charlo.

Reinschmidt netted a game-high 20 points for Thompson Falls in the win. Wilson and Laws were also in double digits, scoring 13 and 11 points respectively. Phillips added nine points, Josh Hojem and Pavlik seven and Sky Hall and Dalton Groshong with two each.

Chance Rosenbaym led the 14-2 Vikins with 18 points.

The 3-5, 7-9 Bluehawks can finish no worse than fifth place heading into districts. Thompson Falls will host Plains on Thursday during their senior night, before traveling to St. Ignatius on Saturday for their regular season finale.
