Trotters play for second place

The Trotters are in position to compete for the second seed of the District 7-B tournament heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

The third place Trotters, 4-4 conf., 10-6 ovr., will face two of the three teams ranked above them in their final games before districts. With wins over second place Mission (6-2, 12-4) and third place Thompson Falls (4-4, 5-11), Plains could drastically improve their fourth place standing.

Last weekend, the Trotters broke even, losing to Bigfork, 27-54, and defeating Eureka, 38-34 in overtime, to set the table for their exciting regular season finish.

On Friday, Bigforks’ defense was too much for the Trotters to handle. Plains failed to score double digits points in any single quarter, as they fell to the powerful Vals in a district matchup.

Mallery Knoll tallied 24 points to lead all scorers for Bigfork (9-0, 14-1).

Plains was led by Kayla Revier’s seven points. Nikki Kunzer and Jessica Hanson added five points apiece, Ashley Thompson and Kelsey Beagley scored three each and Laurel Danhof and Felicia Earhart both scored two.

Plains had a quick turn around, traveling to face Eureka the following day. The Trotters rebounded with a 38-34, overtime win over the Lady Lions.

Plains trailed by two as time expired, but Hanson was fouled, sinking both free throws to send the game into overtime.

In the extra session, Revier scored four of the Trotter’s eight points, as Eureka dropped to 2-7, 2-12.

Diamong LaDeaux led Plains, scoring nine points. Beagley tallied eight, Hanson seven, Revier six, Kunzer four and Ashley Thompson and Malena Sweet two each.

Cassidy Morgan led the Lady Lions with 10 points.

The Trotters will face St. Ignatius on Tuesday,  before traveling to Thompson Falls on Thursday.
