4-H building needs facelfit

The 4-H building that sits on the fairgrounds in Superior is in need of some repairs, but there’s no money in the budget.

Janet Neville, who sits on the fair board, outlined the issues with the building to the commissioners last week, but the money just isn’t available for the repairs.

Neville said that there are quite a few problems with the current building that is at least 40 years old if not more. Work that needs done includes redoing the roof, caulking, interior work and repairs along the east wall.

The building, Neville said, sees quite a large usage from people within the community year round.

“This building houses the main fair exhibit, the shooting sports kids use it for practice practically every night and it’s also used by nonprofits all the time. It has continual use,” Neville said.

Neville said that the repairs would cost somewhere between $30,000 and $35,000 dollars. She said that it was suggested perhaps a new building should be built at the meeting, but without any money that also seems impossible.

“The best case scenario would be to build a different type of building with a space that would be bigger and better utilized,” Neville said.

Neville said that the money might not be available, but something is going to have to be done. Water is seeping in between the metal and the walls. The roof could also potentially buckle.

Neville said that her and Carol Johnson have been working and looking at different avenues. She said that they’ve had a hard time getting contractors down to look at the building and put in any bids.

“If anyone wants to go down and measure it and put in a bid on what it would cost to build a new building we’d like that,” Neville said.
