Robert Lee Mathews

Robert Lee Mathews died January 19,2011, in Elkhart, Kan. Mathews, 84, the son of the late Edgar and Grace Mathews, was born June 8,1926, in St.Francis, Mo.

After Pearl Harbor,Bud as he was known most of his life, joined the Army at age 15, and served  for three months. Then joined the Navy at the age of seventeen, and served through the war until he was honorably discharged.

He was married to Dorthy Minemyer of Plains, Mt. on Dec.11,1945 in Thompson Falls, Mt. To this union six children were born.

When Bud went to work for the Helium Activity, they moved to Shiprock,N.M. In 1959 they moved to Boise City when Bud moved to the Keyes Helium Plant, and in 1969,they moved to Keyes He worked for the Helium Activity for 35 years.

Bud enjoyed fishing,woodworking and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the Keyes United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents,three brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by his wife Dorthy, of the home, a son, Robert L.”Buddy” and Judie Mathews,of Winslow Ind.; five daughters, Connie and Cecil Japhet, Keyes; Barbara George,Guymon; Beverly and Cecil Edler Elk City; Pat Whitfield,Keyes; Shirley and Toby Barnum, Keyes; a sister Dorthy Helms, Rimro Robert Lee Mathews
