Tigers drop two to end season

The last season of regular basketball is over for the St. Regis Tigers. They played Charlo and Victor last week and failed to come out of either of those games with a win for the regular season.
On Thursday, the Tigers lost to Charlo, 32-61. They were down by nine going into the second quarter and then struggled in the second. Charlo outscored them 17-0 in the second. They didn’t play too badly in the second half. They went 11-17 with Charlo in the third and 12-9 in the fourth quarter.
“We had some turnovers again,” Coach Dan Park said. “We missed some shots and then in that second quarter, though we were playing well, we didn’t score at all. But I felt that it went better than it had in the past.”
Jarrod Tippens scored 14 points to lead St. Regis and Thomas Spencer added 10.
After losing to Charlo, it was on to Victor on Saturday. They boys lost 27-65. St. Regis was outscored in the first quarter by 20 points, which gave Victor an early edge.
“It was pretty much the same story,” Park said.
St. Regis was outscored by Victor all for quarters. They ended the season 0-17 overall. Park said that one of the nice things he saw in the game against Victor was that everyone was getting a look at the basket and scoring. Typically, Tippens and Spencer are the only two players who scored for the team and this time, every player put in some points.
Spencer led with 11 and Tippens added 10. Tim Cranley II, Steven Mellen and Keenan Ewalt all scored two points apiece.
“I’m getting some good effort from everybody,” Park said. “More team members were stepping up and scoring. It might not have been a lot of points, but it was a few.”
Park said he was happy to see that. He said that a lot of the team’s players are young kids. He said that when they have those open shots they need to be able to take them.
“We’re still playing a bit scared because we’re so young,” Park said.
St. Regis isn’t finished yet. They will move onto districts with a game on Thursday night at 8 p.m. Park said he wasn’t sure who they will play, but assumes it will either be Two Eagle or Noxon.
