Are you sick of the weather? Looking for something fun to do? Want to hear some great music? Maybe even do some dancing?

If you answered yes, then you will enjoy an evening out at the Mineral County Performing Arts Council’s fundraiser. Throughout the 2010-2011 season, MCPAC has provided several shows free to the public. With no admission price, the group has only asked for donations if you enjoyed the show.

Jim Goss said that because of the great support from their sponsors and from those who support them through donations and at their fundraiser has made this possible.

On March 20, MCPAC is pulling out all the stops for its 2010-2011 fundraiser event. The Ed Norton Big Band will perform.

If you got to attend the last concert and heard Air Mail Special, than you are going to enjoy the Ed Norton Big Band. The band’s repertoire showcases tunes from the swing era, by composers such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman, alongside the work of modern jazz masters such as Sonny Rollins and Charlie Parker.

The band is composed of an 18-piece ensemble that specializes in American classic music. The band, which features a full complement of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section, proves that swing is back big, and nothing swings like a genuine big band.

“People who want to dance are going to be able to dance,” said Mary Jo Berry. “There are going to desserts and hors d’oeuvres. We will also be holding a silent auction. It’s going to be a fun night and another great concert.”

Berry said that if you really want to get into the evening and dress in the style of the era the music is from you are more than welcome to.

Berry said that the Ed Norton Big Band is not the last show of the season. On May 9, Laura Loge, who sings opera-style, will be performing. Shane Clouse and his band, Stomping Ground, will perform this summer on July 23.

The band was voted the best local band in Montana in 2005. Clouse is a singer/songwriter born in Missoula, MT. He performs regionally, and all over the world, and serves as a member of the Board of the Missoula Cultural Council.

Berry said that MCPAC is excited for the two remaining concerts as well. The group worked hard this year to expand its musical horizons.
