A runaway ferry, which broke free of its mooring two weeks ago, has finally been secured according to Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel.

The ferry was anchored near mile marker 88 along Highway 200, just east of Paradise and was used to shuttle equipment, livestock and hay back and forth across the river before its detachment, said Rummel.

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, the ferry broke free and began floating down river. Although no iffical casue was given, the weather likely loosened the ferry.

Since that time, the ferry has been hung up and freed again in the rapids near mile marker 70.

According to Rummel, the ferry is currently located above Wheatsfield creek, near mile marker 69 and hs been secured to the bank.

Rummel said the craft belongs to Glacier Bank who owns the property it was previously attached to.
