The St. Regis Tigers faced a loss before Christmas break. They were up against Hot Springs in a home game and ended up falling behind. They lost 29-63.

“A lot of things went wrong,” said Coach Dan Park.

During the first quarter, Hot Springs broke out to an early lead. St. Regis was down by six going into the second quarter, 4-10. In the second, St. Regis managed seven points, while Hot Springs ran away with 14. But the third quarter was the roughest of the game for the Tigers. Hot Springs nabbed 24 points, while St. Regis scored a mere seven.

“We had turnovers and I just didn’t see the intensity that we should have had,” Park said. “Against Alberton, we played hard and we fought hard.”

St. Regis played Hot Springs the closest in the fourth, scoring 11, while their opponent managed 15 points. Park described the game as the worst one so far for the season. He said he wasn’t sure what went wrong, but noted it didn’t seem like everyone on the team was trying equally.

“It wasn’t a whole team effort. Some people were working hard when everything is designed for everyone on the team to work hard. When one guy isn’t working hard on defense, we give up points. When one guy isn’t working hard on offense, we don’t get open,” Park said. “You might get a practice like this every once in a while, but I’m not used to having games like this.”

Thomas Spencer led with 11 points for the Tigers and Jarrod Tippens threw in nine. Tim Cranley II scored two, Jon Langella added five and Brit Ramsey scored two.

Park noted that player Jordan Baldwin who is a junior and joined the team this year has been “improving immensely.”

“He’s improved in his quickness and overall game,” Park said.

Park noted that sometimes he forgets how young the team is.

“Sometimes I think I expect more than I should, but not playing hard is not something I accept,” Park said,

With Hot Springs behind them, Park said the team practiced offense over the holiday break. He said that they’ll be working on repetition and getting things going in the right direction again.

“Hoping everybody will be back in practice by the end of the week and we’ll be trying to get back in shape,” Park said.

The Tigers will be up against Two Eagle and Noxon. Park said that Two Eagle is always athletic and that they will pose a challenge.

“I see it being a tough game,” Park said. “As for Noxon, I don’t really know what we’ll be looking at.”
