The Mineral County Performing Arts Council is proud to present AirMail Special tonight, January 26, at 7:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Baptist Church in Superior.

AirMail Special is an all-star jazz quintet specializing in classic music of the swing era, in particular the signature tunes of Benny Goodman’s legendary small group that featured guitarist Charlie Christian.

This is swing music at its most upbeat and infectious.  Clarinetist Benny Goodman’s small bands broke through many musical barriers, opening the door to the modern jazz era.  The tunes, some of which were bona fide jukebox hits of the day, were usually composed by Charlie Christian, a Texas musician discovered by Goodman who was a true pioneer of the electric guitar.  Built out of catchy rhythmic figures, these tunes helped revolutionize the way jazz was performed by musicians and perceived by the public.  Jazz began to move from the dance clubs to the concert halls, with no loss of intensity.  This music is as vital and powerful today as it was seventy years ago.

AirMail Special features Chuck Florence on the clarinet, Jeff Stickney on the trumpet, David Horgan on the guitar, Beth Lo on the bass and Cody Hollow on the drums. It is sure to be an evening of spectacular music.

This event will be free to the public though donations are always welcome and will benefit MCPAC. The group, which has been in existence for little over a few years, has working hard to continue to expand musical and geographical boundaries.
