As the Plains squared off against the Savage Heat, either the Trotter’s three or Hot Springs’ five-game losing streak had to end.

It turned out to be the Trotter’s night, as they defeated Hot Springs 51-35, on Friday. This marked the second time they had defeated the nonconference foe this season.

“Plains is an intense and tough team to deal with,” Hot Springs head coach Scott Wigton said. “They play hard on both ends and they have a lot of weapons on offense and they work really hard on defense.”

The Trotters, who started their season with five straight wins, were in danger of losing two consecutive games to a District 14-C opponent after a 20-42 loss at Charlo on Tuesday.

Plains (7-5) led by five after three quarters, but a 19-6 run in the fourth finally gave them the victory and the piece of mind they had been looking for all.

Both Kayla Revier and Diamond LaDeaux were in double digits with 13 and 12 points respectively for the District 7-B Trotters. . Nikki Kunzer eight, Ashley Thompson six, Felicia Earhart five, Jessica Hansen four, Kelsey Beagley two and Laurel Danhof one

The Savage Heat were paced by Meghan Massingale’s game-high 14 points. Alyssa Foster chipped in ten points, Lindsey Salmi three and Hannah Retalick, Gina Morigeau, Erin Schmiedbauer and Nicole Beernsten tallied two apiece.

The following night, the Savage Heat hosted another hungry nonconference foe in Seeley-Swan as they surrendered their second game in as many nights, falling 27-66 versus the Lady Blackhawks.

“It’s not so much about wins and losses against teams like that, it’s about showing the girls what small schools can do when they play basketball together,” Wigton said.

Despite the Lady Blackhawks pressure defense, Hot Springs found themselves trailing only two at the end of the first quarter, 11-13.

“Against a team that’s a high intensity, trapping, full court press team, your’e going to have to be extremely disciplined and limit your mistakes and we limited those mistakes in that first quarter,” Wigton said.

In the second quarter, Seeley-Swan’s defensive pressure would begin to get the better of Hot Springs as the Bluehawks outscored the home team 14-2. In the second half, that margin had jumped to 39-11.

Foster led Hot Springs (2-10) with nine points. Salmi scored six, Schmeidbauer and Alex Green scored four each and Retallick and Morigeau two.

Shelby Holmes had 15 points and Cascade Parcell 12 for the District 13-C Blackhawks (10-1).

The Savage Heat will host St. Regis on Saturday.

In their final game last weekend, the Trotters took their show on the road, defeating Darby, 53-32, on Saturday.

Freshman guard Felicia Earhart scored a season-high 18 points for the Trotters (8-5) in a nonconference win. Nikki Kunzer added 10 points, Danhof eight, Revier seven, Beagley six, LaDeaux three, Aspen Rude and Hansen two each and Ashley Thompson one.

Both Haley Rennaker and Julie Abrahamsen scored 10 points for the District 6-B Tigers who dropped to 3-8 with the loss.
