CASA comes through Mineral County
CASA of Missoula has expanded our program to Mineral County, and we are looking for dedicated and caring individuals who might be interested in volunteering for the CASA program. Our CASA volunteers work towards making sure every child in Mineral County has a safe home and a chance for a positive future.
Every year in the Missoula and Mineral Counties more than 80 children are abused and neglected and end up without a home to call their own. Although the number is concerning, the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program of Missoula is helping to make a difference. This nonprofit organization trains volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court in order to help find them safe, permanent homes.
CASA volunteers are trained to act as first-hand experts on the individual needs of abused and neglected children, giving them the best possible chance at a hopeful future. As an appointed member of the court, a CASA volunteer assumes the following core responsibilities:
• Serve as a fact-finder for the judge by thoroughly researching the background of the assigned case
• Speak on behalf of the child in the courtroom, representing his or her best interests
• Act as a “watchdog” for the child for the duration of the case, ensuring it is brought to a swift and appropriate conclusion
