What was your proudest moment from this year’s basketball season?

In the locker room after the Mission game. We’d earned a trip to divisionals, but that wasn’t what I was proud about. What I was proud about was that one of my senior players gave up time on the floor to another kid, because he felt like the other kid was the best team’s hope to make it to divisionals. All season long, I’d been trying to really emphasize team play and that was a great example.

What was your team’s biggest challenge? How did they respond?

The team’s biggest challenge was probably lack of experience, which in turn frustrated them early in the season and caused some attitude problem that they had to overcome to become a team.

We didn’t have a bunch of big kids or a ton of experienced basketball players so we really had to play team ball to win ball games or stay in ball games. I felt by the end of the year, they were playing good team ball.

In what areas did you see the most improvement?

Probably having patience in the offense. I knew the kids could play good defense, they always have from the time they were freshman. Offensively they learned to play with the patience that they struggled with all the way through high school.

When and how did you see the greatest character exhibited by your team?

The greatest character was definitely at the district tournament. The team came together. You could tell they were a different team in the locker room. They talked to each other and treated each other in a way that I hadn’t seen all season.

What are you looking forward to the most about next season?

I think that the underclassmen that played varsity this year got quite a bit of experience. I think next year you will see that experience, which we did not have this year, come into play a lot more. They’re be much further ahead to start the season than this group was.

Do you have any final thoughts?

I’d just like to thank all the fans that supported us all season. It was a rough year, but they were there to watch us play.
