Fair 4-H Awards and sale go well for participants

The Sanders County 4-H show and auction

‘faired’ well this past weekend for the young participants and

their supporting families at the 2011 Sanders County Fair as

ribbons were dispensed for home ec and animal projects and

livestock was sold.

The weekend-long ordeal kicked off Thursday

afternoon as 4-H members brought in their exhibits to the Home Ec

building at the fairgrounds for the initial interview judging.

 Awards were presented

Saturday night.

Fifteen volunteer judges interviewed the 4-H

members and awards were given to the outstanding interviewees and

outstanding exhibits.

For the food and nutrition project, Jordyn

Wilkinson was awarded. The top interview prizes for food and

nutrition were given to Abby Croft and Logan Naegeli.

For the gardening project, the top exhibitors

were Lindsey Laws and Mara Hanks. Top interviewee for the gardening

project was Regan Hanks.

For the quilt projects, the top exhibitors

were Kaitlyn Havens and Nicole Ribeiro. Top interviewee was Corle

Morefield.

For the sewing and textiles project, top

exhibitors were Mahala Sweet and Naomi Bankhead; they also were

selected as the top interviewees.

Mara Hanks won the award for the

self-determined project while Emily Snell won the top exhibit in

the leadership project.

For the welding project, top interviewee was

Theresa Fausett and the outstanding exhibits were Josh Wulfekuhle

and Tyler Garrison.

For the woodworking project, top interviewee

was Casey Chenoweth and top exhibitors were Trevor Paro and Casey

Chenoweth.

For the photography project, top exhibitors

were Casey Chenoweth and Abby Croft.

Top interviewees were Logan Naegeli and Abby

Croft.

For the veterinary science project, the top

exhibitor was Shannon Saint and the top interviewee was Austin

Newman.

Sponsors for the Home Ec awards were Wheat

Montana, Blue Slide Growers of Thompson Falls, Flat Iron Quilt

Guild,  Sanders County

Homemakers, Sanders County Ledger, NAPA of Thompson Falls, Susic

Construction of Thompson Falls, Mariah Naegeli and Jennifer and

Ryan Frields.

In the livestock division, 4-H members were

kept busy with their animals. Lane Foster’s Red Angus market beef,

weighing 1,290 pounds, was named grand champion and was sold Sunday

for $3 per pound to Thompson River Lumber.

Elizabeth Cannon’s York/Hamp market swine,

weighing 265 pounds, was named grand champion and was sold Sunday

for $4.70 per pound to Les Schwab of Ronan.

Justin Salmi’s Suffolk market sheep, weighing

142 pounds, was named grand champion and was sold Sunday for $10.50

to Mountain Shadows Ranch.

Shannon Saint’s Boer meat goat – the first

meat goat to be entered for show and sale – weighed 65 pounds and

sold for $6.75 per pound to Randy McDonald.

Rocky Mountain Bank of Plains assisted in the

livestock market sale with clerking the sale as well as buying

livestock from a number of 4-H members.
