Up the mountain on Montana highway 28, between mile markers 4 and 5 lay a flipped semi-truck and trailer; the contents of its load spilled about the shoulder, late Friday afternoon near Plains.

The Sanders County Sheriff's Office received the emergency call regarding the one-vehicle accident just before 5 p.m. and the Plains-Paradise Rural Fire Department was the first to arrive on the scene.

The semi, which had Washington plates, was traveling south towards Plains when the accident occurred. The driver was put on a stretcher and transported to Clark Fork Valley Hospital by Plains Ambulance.

Montana Highway Patrol and Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummell were on the scene and interviewed two witnesses.

According to MHP, the driver, who was traveling alone, may have taken the curve too fast and the trailer caught in the loose gravel off the shoulder, got sucked into the shoulder and tipped. The trailer flipped over while the cab tipped on its side. The cab also split wide open.  The contents of the load hauled, compressed and bundled cardboard boxes, were all spilled onto the shoulder.

The accident did not block any lanes; however, Plains-Paradise Rural Firefighters directed traffic to a single lane during the initial investigation.

No other vehicles were involved and no one else was hurt.
