The Plains softball team opened the season against a pair of non-conference foes. While the Trotters did hit the ball consistently, they were unable to prevent opposing runs from being scored.

In the two games against Libby, Plains hit the ball well and ended up scoring 16 runs. Despite offensive production put out by the Trotters, they were unable to match the runs scored by the opposing team. Plains lost to Libby 6-10 and then 10-15.

“We hit the ball but we had a tough time stringing together enough hits to win,” said Plains head coach Greg Newton.

Against Florence, Plains had a tough time finding a rhythm against some stingy pitching. In addition, they didn’t have an answer for the offensive explosion Florence experienced in both games of the double-hear. Plains lost 10-0 in the first game and 16- 0 in the second.

Players like Alex Green and Tia Thompson were able to connect for some runs, but they were unable to make a significant dent in the scoreboard.

A big factor in Plains struggle against Florence was their fielding. The Trotters committed nine errors total in both games against Florence.

Newton says the team will work on fundamentals to prepare for conference play this month.

The next game for Plains will be at home in a doubleheader against Eureka on April 14.
