PLAINS – Purple-clad volleyball campers attended the Trotters Summer Volleyball Camp Thursday evening in order to get a jump-start into the season come Fall.

The camp chose purple for the T-shirts to show support of Relay For Life, and the “Paint the Town Purple” campaign. High schoolers  and a few junior-high athletes comprised the camp roster, and the goal was to hone their strengths while going over some drills and weight=lifting techniques, according to head coach Kim Earhart.

Thirteen campers total attended, and were coached not only by Earhart, but also returning assistant coach Whitney Tanner-Spurr, as well as Denise Montgomery. The girls were also educated in weight-lifting techniques by professional personal trainer Ryan Ronan.

“Weight-lifting is the area I am not most knowledgeable in,” Coach Earhart said. “So, I asked Ryan to help and I think it’s going to be really good for the girls.”

After running through warm-ups and a few initial net drills, the girls spent time in the weight room for strength training.

“We’re going to have a young team this year,” Coach Tanner-Spurr said. “But I think they’re going to be willing to work hard.”

Also coming to the aid of the Trotters were college volleyball players from Federal Way, Wash. Sarah Caylor, Tabi Webb and Morgan Green were visiting Plains for the annual Vacation Bible School with Plains Bible Chapel, and said they were happy to help out the local volleyball scene.

Campers in attendance were Megan Turner, Ivy Richards, Megan Turner, Sami Kinzie, Jessica Hansen, Amanda Marjerrison, Tia Thompson, Felicia Earhart, Kimberly Earhart, Leah Thompson, Nicole Rehbein, Rebekah Barnard, and Audrey Hardcastle.
