PERMA - A wildfire spanning a reported 160 acres began late afternoon Aug. 19 near what Sanders County locals call the Perma bridge and burned well into the evening.

Officials are calling it the Perma Bridge Fire due to its vicinity near Perma and Perma bridge that leads to Hot Springs and Ronan. Tribal Police as well as U.S. Forest Service were on hand to contain the fire and manage traffic control if needed.

While the fire burned within Sanders County, it was officially on Tribal land. Two helicopters and a SEAT unit were dispatched to drop water and fire suppressant on the blaze, and it was eventually reduced to smoke and small patches of fire within a few hours.
