SUPERIOR - The Superior Bobcat football team held its first week of practices under new head coach Allan Labbe.

Labbe said that he is excited about the upcoming season and is making sure to stress one important factor in his practices – mental toughness.

“This is no secret and we’ve known this forever – it’s all mental attitude,” Labbe said.

“We just talked about it tonight. It’s all about what your mind can tell your body to do. So that’s what we’re stressing, we are stressing good attitude and hard work. Nothing different.”

KThe Bobcats have seven seniors on this year’s team and Labbe said that he is expecting big things out of them.

“We all know that where the seniors go, your program goes,” Labbe said.

“If the seniors are good leaders and hard workers then the rest of the kids will respond.”

Labbe is taking over as head coach this year in the wake of Dan Lucier’s move to a different school.

He made sure to mention that he is undefeated as a head coach as well as that he is aware of the big shoes he is stepping into.

“I don’t think anybody can fill Dan Lucier’s shoes,” Labbe said.

“He was such a good coach and did such a good job of building programs. The kids deserve my best effort though - if I was half as good a coach as he was I would be twice as good as I am.”

On Thursday at 4 pm, the team will have a “game practice”, where they will run through the offense. Labbe said the community is encouraged to attend and afterwards their will be a steak feed to raise funds for the booster club.

The Bobcats play the Lincoln Links in the first game of the season on August 24 at home. Kick-off is at 7 pm.

The Links finished fourth last season in conference play, but Labbe said the team will be prepared.

“I think our team speed is the best it’s ever been,” Labbe said.

“These guys have speed and they have know-how.”
