MINERAL COUNTY - Ed Hollenback was honored with an award and plaque for his time on the board of the Mineral Community Hospital at a ceremony Wednesday.

Hollenback was instrumental in getting the funds and land for the current hospital building and many gathered in the lobby of the hospital to thank him for his dedication.

"They were good years," Hollenback said of his time on the board. "Thank you for all coming, that was very nice."

Hollenback discussed his time on the board with attendees and thanked everyone he served with over the years before the floor was opened for others to give their thoughts on Hollenback’s service to MCH.

"I worked with Ed probably starting about 1985 and I can verify that the hospital was always a high priority on his list," Cliff Case, CFO of MCH, said.

Another attendee, Roger Brown, spoke of Hollenback as a person and mentioned Hollenback’s relationship with his Eleanor.

"I know Ed has been chairperson on the board for many years and Ellie has been on the foundation so I am speaking of both of them," Brown said. "I am confident that this is just not to honor Ed today but it is to honor this outstanding couple that is an example of what living and loving is about. They have a strong bounding commitment to their community and I look up to both of them."

Steve Carty, CEO of MCH, said Hollenback provided "years and years" of service on both the board as well as helping build the current hospital.

"He still provides me with council and guidance," Carty said. "I lean on him pretty heavily at times when I have a question on something."

"He and I visit very frequently, when we are doing something he doesn’t understand he will call me up and say ‘Steve, what ya doin’ and we will have discussion. I have gotten to know him quite a bit actually during the last four years and it’s been fun to talk to someone who has already been involved from way back," Carty said.
