The largest organ of the human body, the epidermis (skin) is often the most neglected and abused with daily monotonous routines such as walking outside, but now area residents can look to remedy such damage and more with visits to Rockstars Salon in Plains.

Karrie Shinnick, the newest team member at Rockstars Salon is the in-house esthetician who has been practicing cosmetology for 20 years. In joining the Rockstars Salon team, she brings not only her education and years of experience in the salon and spa industry to the scene, but also a vision that is unique and seemingly refreshing.

“To provide a service that everyone needs, such as proper skin care, is something that makes Rockstars Salon a full-service venue,” Shinnick said. “For people who want to get their hair, nails and now skin enhanced in one place instead of going into Missoula, it’s now possible. I offer professional, high-quality facials that could be tailored for a client’s specific needs.”

Shinnick officially joined Rockstars Salon in late February, and just last week, was the main feature in the salon’s open house to introduce her to clientele. However, Shinnick is not new to the Sanders County scene. She has been a resident of Plains since 2007, and has been involved in community organizations such as Chamber of Commerce and swim team.

But her skincare philosophy is the culmination of having practiced and aided others over the years in places such as Bozeman and Missoula. Shinnick offered a straight-forward definition of her personal take on skincare most could take to heart: “There are three basic keys of skincare. Deep cleansing, exfoliation, which is the removal of dead skin cells, and hydration. Most people do not take these steps for their skin, and it is important to maintain healthy skin for aging and health purposes,” Shinnick said. “Exfoliation is the main thing, because no matter your at-home skincare regimen, if you don’t properly exfoliate, your cleansers can’t cleanse and your moisturizers can’t hydrate. I do recommend that depending on the client’s needs, a facial is needed at the most, every 4 to 6 weeks, or at the very least, four times a year – when the seasons change.”

The line of skincare products Shinnick uses for the facials she offers, Repêchage, is one of the top products in the industry. Shinnick was very selective of what products she wanted to offer to clients, and so far, the feedback has been good. The American-made, seaweed-based products can be customized in usage for clients’ specific issues, something Shinnick is dedicated to providing.

Aside from facials, Shinnick also offers full-body waxing, facial waxing, eyebrow and eyelash tinting, and human energy chelation therapy.

Human energy chelation therapy is the treatment of negative energy removal from the body. In a way, negativity and harmful energy are led out of the body. According to Shinnick, when a person’s energy flow is healthy and fit, the person finds that their health feels far more positive. Positive energy will promote a feeling of vitality, whereas negative energy has the inverse effect. Shinnick is interested in helping others with human energy chelation therapy for health benefits and hopes to extend it to a wider variety of people who may be interested. Research conducted and reported in alternative medicine journals have found that people with chronic or degenerative diseases, cancer among them, have found human energy chelation therapy to help with their pain and suffering. Humans are, in a sense, made of energy and not just skin and bones. Shinnick hopes to aid others in all these areas. In joining Rockstars Salon, Shinnick wants to promote these things to area residents and help them reach their goals in personal health and personal artistry.

“I’m excited to be part of the team because it’s fun, cutting edge and up-to-date,” Shinnick said. “And now with what I can offer, it covers the full spectrum of personal adornment and refinement. I’m excited to be here.”
