SANDERS COUNTY -  Hot Springs High School hosted the other Sanders County teams from Plains, Noxon, and Thompson Falls Thursday for the annual All-County track meet on what was a windy and rainy setting.

But the kiddos powered through and ran, jumped, and threw for fun.

On the boys side, it was the Bluehawks who dominated the day with many first-place races that accumulated to 240 points.

From the Bluehawks, it was the performances of Dominique Holt, Jimmy Swiercz, Jaron Laws that pressed the individual races to stellar-yet-fun results for Thompson Falls. Holt’s performances in the 100 meter dash (12.09) as well as the 200 meter dash (25.00) that put the Bluehawks on the map for lead contenders. Followed by Jimmy Swiercz’s going the distance for first-place finishes in both the 800 meter run (2:15.00) and 1,600 meter run (5:15.14) as well as Jaron Laws’ first-place finish in the 3,200 meter run, the Bluehawk boys continued to dish out solid performances. The 4 x 100 meter relay, made of John Lloyd, Gabe Flood, Cody Phillips and Hawk Fratzke dominated the race with a winning time of 47.8.

Hot Springs boys came close to Thompson Falls’ fire during the friendly All-County meet. Main standouts were that of Mike Gray in his 400 meter dash (56.93), as well as the 4 x 400 meter relay team, made of Mike Gray, Jimmy Holland, Dave Cross and Wyatt Nagy, leaving the competition in the dust with a winning time of 3:58.00. Noxon and Plains showcased a few stand out performances for the boys, such as Noxon’s Banks Stocking winning the boys javelin with 158’-3”. Distance runner Carter Montgomery of Plains exhibited his sprinter side with pretty good performances in the 400 meter dash (57.43) in which he placed second and the 300 meter hurdles, in which he placed fourth; Preston Shubert of Thompson Falls took first in that same event while Wyatt Nagy and Tanner Hoff placed second and third, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Plains Trotters dominated the All-County meet with a total team score of 194 points. Much like the Bluehawk boys, the Trotters were able to establish their reign early in the meet with top finishes in the sprint dashes as well as the relays. Noxon girls exhibited light-footed talent as well, with athletes such as Kim Marich and Brooke Smithborne running hard in dashes as well as relays. Noxon girls dominated the field in shot put, with Casey Chenoweth throwing a 31’-0” shot put for the win while teammate Kim Marich came in at second in the event with 28’-8”. Marich also displayed her fantastic jumping abilities with a win in the triple jump at 28’-9”.

On the horizon for all the track teams lies the hope of qualifying for divisionals, a meet that is to take place in Ronan next week.
