PLAINS - Plains art classes held their 19th annual student art show opening last night, May 15th.

The work  displayed is all student-made art work and some of the students and art instructor Kristen Cole spent last Wednesday and Thursday prepping for the show by hanging the art near the gym and even replacing ceiling tiles with paintings.

High school students in grades ninth through 12th spend all year working on projects that they would like to put on display for the show that is held at the end of each year. There are four classes that submit their work and they included the Art I classes as well as Two D Art and the Independent Study class. The show helps to get the students art work on display for other students and the community to see.

“Our room is up in the corner and some people never get up there, so the art show is nice to help get exposure for our students who are very talented,” said Cole.

This year’s show was the second in which students from Nate Freeze’s Shop class submitted pieces they have worked on during the school year, such as welded pieces and woodwork.

Students were given the option to sell certain pieces of art on opening night or even offer to have copies made of others.

The reception and show was held near the high school gym foyer and halls, guests were invited to not only enjoy the student art, but also to attend the Spring Concert that was held in the gym at 7 p.m., making Plains High School a scene of student-created fine arts.
