The Plains Track and Field teams wrapped up their meet in Corvallis on Saturday and the Plains Girls brought home another team title to go with the another they won just last week. The divisional title is the first for Plains High School in 20 years.

The Plains girls dominated the competition finishing with 130 total points, Loyola Sacred Heart finished in a distant second with 93 points, and Florence finished third with 91.

“It was an incredible weekend for all the kids.  It appears to be the first Divisional Track Championships for the girls in at least the last 20 years, if not longer.  And, it was all because each and every one of the girls performed just like they needed to.  It’s not often that you have an occasion where there are no down performances.  It was just a magical day,” said head coach Tony Banovich

Highlighting day one for the ladies was Kelsey Beagley who took first place in the long jump, jumping 16-5 and ½ a personal best. The Plains 4x100 relay team also took home the top spot, the team of Beagley, Kayla Holmes Nicole Rehbein, and Hailey Phillips won the race with a time of 51.22 a new school record.

Carter Montgomery had a big day for the Plains guys; Montgomery won the 3200-meter race with a time of 10:19:28.

The girls continued to rack up the points on day two as, Ashley Holmes took home first place in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.82 a new personal best.

Hailey Phillips won the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.98 a personal best and new school record.

The 1600-meter relay team of Beagley, Phillips, Felicia Earhart and Rehbein won the competition with a time of 4:21.71.

Franky Winebrenner won the discus throw with a distance of 107-7.

Beagley picked up a third place finish in the 100m, Phillips added a third place finish in the 200m.

Earhart finished second in the 3200m setting a new personal best and third in the 800m which was also a personal best.

Carter Montgomery had another outstanding day for the Plains guys.

Montgomery won the 1600m with a time of 4:34.92 a new personal best. Robert Earhart finished second in the javelin with a distance of 158-4.

Ben Gorham finished second in the discus with a 134-4 a new personal best. The boy’s team finished sixth with 38 points.

The teams will now move on to the State Tournament in Bozeman this weekend.

“We took 10 girls and 6 boys to this meet; and, we’ll take all 10 girls and 3 of the boys to the State Championships.  For the girls, that sets us up well to have a good showing in Bozeman” said Banovich.
