The Trotters softball team played four playoff games this week going 2-2.

Plains started their playoff week by beating Troy 9-3 in their Class B/C Divisional Tournament play in game.

The Trotters moved on to Ronan and game one of the Western Divisional B Tournament where they took on Deer Lodge. Plains took it to the Wardens winning in just five innings by a final count of 21-8.

Next up for the Trotters was a date with number one seed Florence. The Falcons would bring an end to the Plains winning streak moving on to the championship game winning by a final score of 11-1.

Plains was facing elimination to start day two as they took on Eureka. The Lions jumped out early and never looked back and sent the Trotters home early winning 11-7.

“We had our chances, Karlena Heward pitched a couple great games, our offense hit the ball pretty well, its just hard to win games when you commit errors,” said head coach Greg Newton.

The Trotters played long ball in Ronan, as Tia Thompson went deep in their game vs. Deer Lodge, and Alex Green went deep

not once but twice against Eureka.

Thompson and Green both had 5 RBI games against the Wardens helping the Trotters put up 21 runs in only five innings.

Things weren’t as easy against the top seeded Falcons, as the Trotters were only able to scratch out three hits on their way to scoring one run. The Plains undoing was on defense as they committed four errors helping Florence score 11 times.

Plains got to the Divisional Tournament by beating Troy. The Trotters used a combination of small ball and Trojan errors to put up nine runs.

“Karlena pitched well, we were able to make some big defensive plays and lay down some bunts which was important,” said Newton.

Karlena held the Trojans to two hits helping Plains earn a trip to Ronan for the weekend.

Plains ended the season with an 11-7 overall record and finished fourth in their division.

“Our seniors were great. Karlena pitched well all year, Ashley Thompson was always there when we needed her being a super utility player for us,” said Newton.

This season ended before Newton and his seniors wanted it to but the season was still successful.

“We had a great season, my assistant coaches are great, and our girls have a lot of heart. Its really all about the girls and the assistant coaches,” said Newton.

The Trotters return seven players off this season’s team including Tia Thompson who will only be a junior. No doubt the slugging pitcher will be looked at to lead a team that should be one of the early favorites to start next season.
