Day one of the 2012 Class B State Track Meet is complete, and the local teams have some catching up to do if they want to duplicate their success of the past two weeks.

The Plains and Thompson Falls girls currently sit tied for seventh with five points, through only five events. Plentywood leads the girl’s team competition with 20 points.

Hope Reid got into her groove in the pole vault event; finishing tied for second with clearing 10-6, Reid’s best event - the high jump - is still to come.

Kelsey Beagley had the best day for Plains; grabbing a fourth place finish in the long jump landing at 15-8 and ½, Hailey Phillips wasn’t to far behind at 15-6 placing her sixth.  Like Reid, the Plains squad has many of their best events coming up in day two.

The Bluehawk boys come in riding high off their team title just last week, however the Thompson Falls boys sit in 18th place with seven points. The bite-sized apple Manhattan leads the team competition with 29 points.

Dominique Holt highlighted T-Falls’ day one performance placing fourth in the pole vault with a height of 13-0, Cody Phillips finished tied for fifth clearing 12-06. Phillips also took home fifth place in the javelin throwing 177-02.

Ben Gorham got Plains on the board finishing sixth in the discus with a distance of 128-05.

The weather in Bozeman has been less than cooperative, leaving many events to be finished on day two for the boy’s competition as well.

About 80 miles west on I-90 Noxon and Hot Springs are competing in the Class C State Meet that is taking place in Butte.

The big news on day one was Banks Stocking of Noxon winning the state title in the javelin, Stocking landed a distance of 175-00. The distance of 175 was almost five feet further than his throw last week that placed him fourth in the divisional meet. Stocking has accounted for all 10 of the Red Devils team points, which puts them in fifth place.

The Lady Devils have yet to compete in an event, Casey Chenoweth will take part in the shot put on day two.

The Savage Heat haven’t tallied any team points yet either, but still have a chance to get on the board during the second day of competition.
