Plains Trotters host awards ceremony
PLAINS – The Trotters wrapped up their volleyball season on Thursday with a volleyball awards banquet.
The banquet began with a slideshow, displaying the girls’ hard work and effort throughout the season.
The Trotters junior varsity team awarded Nicole Rehbein with an honorary team member award and was also awarded for the most improved returning player.
Rehbein had seven aces, 13 kills, 29 digs, two assists and one block throughout the season.
Keely Benson was awarded with the most aces, slamming down an impressive 39 aces, 32 kills, 41 digs and one assist.
Leah Thompson had the most kills, leading the team with fifty-eight. She also won the award for the most blocks, with eighteen. Along with that, Thompson had 29 aces, 25 digs and 10 assists.
Kimberly Earhart was awarded with the leadership award as well as the award for the most assists, helping out 111 times. Earhart had 11 aces, 25 kills and 26 digs to add to the team’s totals.
Danika Whitcomb had the most digs, getting low for 42 of them. Whitcomb contributed one kill to the Trotters’ total.
The most improved rookie award went to Lily Huenink who had 10 aces, 21 kills, three digs and 10 blocks.
Rebekah Barnard won the hustle award; with Coach Whitney Tanner-Spurr saying Barnard was always ten steps ahead of what she needed to do. Barnard had 13 aces, 13 kills, 12 digs, one assist and one block.
The mental attitude award went to Audrey Hardcastle who had five aces, two kills, five digs and three assists throughout the season.
Abbie Ehret was awarded the discovery award. Ehret had 12 aces, six kills, 23 digs and one assist.
As for the varsity team, Head Coach Earhart said he sees a promising future for the Trotters, the youngest varsity team in both districts.
"I appreciate the work that everyone of you put into (the season). This is a team that can go to districts and this is a team that can go to divisionals," said Coach Earhart.
Kimberly Earhart, Lily Huenink, Leah Thomspon, Keely Benson, and Rebekah Barnard lettered earning their "P."
Sami Kinzie, Felicia Earhart, Corle Morefield, Destiny Roberts, Jessica Hansen and Tia Thompson earned their bar.
Jessica Hansen walked away with the award for most kills with seventy-five and earned a bar to add to her letterman jacket.
Felicia Earhart also earned a bar and was awarded with the most assists, an impressive 176 assists as well as the most aces with thirty-three.
Leah Thompson lettered and obtained the award with the most blocks, blocking 25 in all.
Kimberly Earhart, who was moved from junior varsity to varsity within the season, shouldered 142 digs and earned the award for the most digs.
"You think about life’s lessons and there’s a lot of lessons you’ll learn from playing volleyball," said Coach Earhart. "Volleyball is a lot about momentum and taking that momentum and using it. I appreciate the girls that come out and put heart and soul in it."
