Hospital Guild offers delivered meals
SUPERIOR - Mineral Community Hospital Guild (RSVP) has been providing home delivered meals to homebound seniors and adults for 2 years now. It is a great program but at the present time is underutilized.
Meals are prepared in the kitchen of the Mineral Community Hospital under the supervision of Dietary Supervisor Sherry Spangler. (This staff goes above and beyond to see that these seniors are taken care of and are well fed for that we Thank You!) A network of volunteer drivers, (RSVP Volunteers), deliver the meals Monday through Friday between 12 and 1. Doesn’t matter if it’s snowing, or raining, whatever the weather we deliver.
This network of drivers not only deliver the meals but each one spends a little time with a senior visiting, going on rides, playing cards, even celebrating their birthdays. Volunteers taking the time to sit and visit on a regular basis are the foundation of a great program. This aspect keeps the senior connected to their community. Interaction with individuals outside their family proves to bring to their lives an understanding that their community is interested in their well-being.
If you or a family member is interested in the program they should call Shana at 822-4035, or Mary Jo at 822-2213. In order to qualify you must be over 60, homebound, or have a medical reason, (surgery for instance) and unable to come to the facility to pick up your meals. If you are eligible for Medicaid you may qualify. This program in not income based, so anyone confined to home can qualify. Prepaid cards and private pay are also available.
