ST. REGIS - The St. Regis Lady Tiger Basketball team began practicing twice a day on Nov. 19 in preparation for the upcoming season.

According to Head Coach Damian Droessler, the practices have been about one thing – conditioning.

"Numbers aren’t in our favor so we have to be in great shape," Coach Droessler said. "Early on we work on some of our base stuff but more than anything we are just trying to figure out what we have and who we are going to be."

With only a couple starters returning from last season Coach Droessler said the team is in "all new territory" and the main thing he expects from his team is to remain competitive.

"I don’t know where we will be, we are in a real tough conference and it is going to be a real battle," Coach Droessler said. "We have a long ways to go to really come together and see what everyone has to offer."

The Lady Tigers first game is on Dec. 7 at home in the first game of the Tiger Tail Tournament at 2;30 p.m.

Byron Quinlan is taking over the boys program this year and began his first week of practices focusing on the fundamentals.

Quinlan said that he wants his squad to be disciplined with the basketball in order to hone their talents.

"We have a lot of raw talent and some of these guys haven’t won in a long time," Quinlan said. "It just goes back to being disciplined and putting these kids in a position where they have a chance to win."

As far as expectations, Quinlan said that the one thing he expects for the Tigers this season is hard work for four quarters every game.

"I want us to be a team that is an effort based team that works hard no matter what the score is," Quinlan said. "I don’t really want to focus on wins or losses or anything like that – it’s just a matter of teaching these kids to be disciplined and take care of the basketball. Whether that translates into wins or losses, I am not worried about that right now."

The first game for the Tigers is during the Tiger Tail Tournament at 4 p.m.
