Mineral county Cemetery District #3 prepares for annual meeting

| October 17, 2012 11:23 AM

Members of the board of trustees of DeBorgia’s Mineral County Cemetery District #3 have been hard at work preparing for its annual town hall meeting. This year’s meeting will be held in the DeBorgia Historic Schoolhouse on October 23, 2012 at 7pm.

Local citizens attending this meeting will be advised about the improvements made during the past year and will be informed about the need to replace the current watering system.

The Board will also be available to answer any questions regarding the forthcoming vote on election day to increase the mill levy to 5 mills. Even assuming the passage of the mill levy, it will be several years before tax receipts will cover the anticipated costs of the water system improvements. The increase in the mill levy will improve the cash flow to the Cemetery to about $3,200 per year versus $700 currently received.

The Board wishes to thank the many businesses and individuals who have made donations to the DeBorgia Cemetery. The donated items included gates, a maintenance shed, fencing, crosses, and a flagpole. The Board is also appreciative of the countless hours of labor given by the surrounding communities to include the Nightriders Snowmobile Club, the West End ATV Club and the New Day Fellowship from Stevensville, among others. It is that level of generosity that encourages the Board that the public is appreciative of the work that has taken place to resuscitate the Cemetery and will vote to support the mill levy increase.
