Lady Hawks gain experience in opening game

THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawk softball opened up their season against Loyola on Tuesday, March 26 – swinging into the season and gaining some experience.
Head Coach Randy Pirker was excited to get the season started.
“I’m very happy with our improvement from the first of the season,” said Coach Pirker. “It was nice to get a game under our belts to see what we needed to work on.”
Senior pitcher Kelsey Fitchett allowed 12 runs in three innings and earned the Ladyhawks a hit.
“It was our first game and it was a beautiful day. Loyola looked pretty darn good. Their pitching was good,” said Coach Pirker.
Both pitchers Fitchett and Erica Sorlie improved their pitches by about five miles per hour after the game with Loyola.
And the Lady Hawks also have pitcher Maddy Fitchett back, also adding another strong hitter to the lineup.
The Lady Hawks faced off their rivals Plains on Tuesday, April 2 at the Plains High School.
Coach Pirker was expecting a good game.
“Plains is pretty tough,” said Coach Pirker. “I think that we’ll probably hit the ball a little bit and string some hits together and do some scoring.”
While the Lady Hawks improve on their pitching, Coach Pirker said their defense is only getting better.
David Thompson, the Trotters softball coach was also ready for the game.
“We look good. The team is anxious to get started,” said Coach Thompson. “The new girls have improved a lot and it’s going to be a good season.”
