“National service is a vital resource for our city,” said one mayor.

“Senior Corps participants have a positive and lasting impact, making our cities better places to live. As Mayor, I am grateful for the dedication and sacrifice of these citizens, who are helping make our great city stronger, safer, and healthier.”

Mayor Mike Wood, will proclaim April 9th National Service Recognition Day at 4:00 p.m. on the front steps of the Mineral County Courthouse.

A reception with cake will follow.

The public and the many volunteers in Mineral County are invited to attend.

They provide vital support by volunteering at food banks and non-profit thrift stores, driving Meals on Wheels and DAV vans for veterans, helping at libraries, museums, hospitals, and senior centers, as well as, over 100 other non-profits. In 2012 RSVP volunteers contributed over 63,000 hours of service.

The Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service is was conceived of by Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, President of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, as a way to recognize the positive impact of national service in cities, to thank those who serve; and to encourage citizens to give back to their communities.

The day is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the National League of Cities, and Cities of Service.
