4-H kids to participate in Fashion Revue and Patchwork Parade
PLAINS – The 4-H kids of Sanders County will be participating in the 4-H Fashion Revue and Patchwork Parade on Sunday, April 21.
The event will be held at Mountain West Clothing in Plains and the doors for the event open at noon.
According to Tammy McAllister, the event provides the kids a chance to showcase any kind of quilting projects they are working on, spanning from sewing, crocheting, knitting, needlework and quilting.
The participants will be interviewed and judged on the garments they create as well as blankets or other quilting projects they have completed.
The public is invited to come down and watch a Fashion Revue, which begins at 3 p.m.
“It’s a good way for people to see what the 4-H kids are doing,” said McAllister stating the top sewer from the junior division will obtain a full scholarship to the 4-H Camp, which will take place this summer.
The top member from the senior division will also be sent to 4-H State Congress in Bozeman.
This year is the first time in a long time the event will be held in Plains and from now on 4-H organizers plan to rotate the event between Plains and Thompson Falls.
The participants will be interviewed about their show items and according to McAllister, the kids will be judged on their presentation, their sewing abilities, the quality of their project, as well as their modeling and interview.
The Dog Hill Bistro will be open for light refreshments as well.
Resident of Plains, Lisa Dolson and Hot Springs resident, Toni Swedberg will be manning the event, educating 4-H members on the possible careers, which can come out of sewing related projects.
Dolson is a professional pattern designer and Swedberg is an artisan, who designs and sells fabrics on Etsy.
4-Her Elena McAllister will also teach members how to make scarves and headbands from t-shirts.
The public is encouraged to stop by and visit with Toni and Lisa and are also able to participate in the scarf and headband workshop. Those interested in making either a scarf or headband should bring in two t-shirts in coordinating colors.
“I encourage people to come down and see what the kids have done,” said McAllister.
