Plains continues winning
The Plains High School softball team racked up two more wins in a double-header against Eureka on April 12. The Trotters started with a strong showing in the first game but faced a challenge in the second match.
The first game ended 30 to zero in the fifth inning with Aspen Rude striking out nine batters and allowing two hits. Sami Kinzie went three for four at the plate with Jenna Peterson, Alex Greene and Diana Woodward adding two hits apiece. The Trotters had 13 total hits in the first game.
The second game was a different story. Eureka took Plains into extra innings with the score tied five to five in regulation. The Trotters broke the game open in the eighth, winning six to five behind a strong pitching outing from Tia Thompson.
Thompson struck out 11 batters, allowing seven hits and four walks. Rude went two for two at the plate with three walks. Leah Thompson had three hits and Alex Greene had two more for the Trotter victory.
The team will face Ronan at home on April 16 for a double header. Assistant Coach David Thompson is expecting to face a strong opponent in Ronan.
“They are doing very well. They’ve lost two games but they are tough. Hopefully we bring our defensive game and our pitching when we play them,” said Thompson.
After meeting Ronan, the Trotters will travel to Deer Lodge for an early afternoon double-header on April 20.
