4-H'ers showcase their quilting and sewing skills
PLAINS – Eager 4H participants filled the Mountain West Clothing store downtown on Sunday for the annual Sanders County 4H Fashion Revue and Patchwork Parade.
Doors opened at noon for interviews, where members were interviewed on their quilting and sewing projects ranging from doilies to beautiful dresses.
The judges interviewed the kids on what they did, the learning process along the way and also inspected the garments and projects for their workmanship.
After the interviews commenced, the kids hit the modeling stage, strutting their stuff down the catwalk, showcasing their hard work to community members in attendance.
This was the first year the show was presented in Plains. Beforehand, the show ran in conjunction with the annual quilt show, however, since the quilt show is now featured every two years, extension agent Meghan Phillippi said this was a perfect opportunity to move around the county.
Tami McAllister spearheaded the organization of the event and worked hard to secure the location for this year.
“It was a great location for us and we appreciated them opening it up for us,” said Phillippi.
Although numbers of 4H kids participating in this event was down this year, Phillippi said their sewing numbers are still strong.
“We would have liked to see more members participate but we’re happy with the quality that did participate,” said Phillippi.
Announcer Charlie Cannon from the Hot Springs Wranglers introduced the girls modeling to the crowd and provided a more in-depth look into their projects.
In the junior division for the fashion revue there were several blue ribbon winners including Claire McAllister for her hoody top, Katrina Hagerman for her gathered skirt, Madeline Snell for her dress, Tresa Lyscio for her knitted doll hat.
