The Trotters softball team came away with mixed results from their last few games versus Ronan and Deer Lodge. The ladies played a double-header against both teams coming away with one win and three losses. The solid offense generated by the team kept them in the games but was not enough to come away with more wins.

The first game against Ronan went into extra innings with Plains winning ten to nine in nine innings. Aspen Rude had 4 strikeouts with only one walk. The bats were on fire for the Trotters led by Sami Kinzie who went four for six with a home run. Tia Thompson went three for four and Alex Greene added three hits of her own. Leah Thompson hit a two-run dinger and it was Alex Greene who drove in the winning run in the ninth.

Head Coach Jeff Rude said, “We played a good game. We hit the ball well. Ronan has been the team to beat. They are a very good hitting team.”

The Trotters suffered a tough loss in the second game, losing to Ronan 12 to two. Tia Thompson had four strikeouts and Rude was solid at the plate going three for three. Unfortunately for the Trotters, Sami Kinzie suffered a minor injury in the ninth inning of the previous game and had to sit out the match.

The next double-header against Deer Lodge started with a close defeat for Plains, losing a heartbreaker seven to six in extra innings. With another impressive display on the mound, Rude racked up another 11 Ks also going two for three at the plate. Solid hitting from Greene and Brianna Smith was not quite enough firepower to overtake Deer Lodge.

In the second game, Plains was defeated 18 to 13 in extra innings. Thompson started the game with Rude relieving with nine strikeouts. Diana Woodward, Jena Peterson, Rude and Thompson all contributed multiple hits. Even with a three-run shot from Thompson, Deer Lodge proved too much for the Trotters.

The girls will play Thompson Falls on April 23 on the Lady Hawks home turf.
