Fire contained near Plains
PLAINS- A small ten-acre wildfire was extinguished just north of Plains and south of Dog Lake on Saturday. Crews took no chances with the hot, dry weather conditions during recent months calling helicopter support and approximately 25 personnel.
Crews from Plains City Fire Department, DNRC and the Forest Service responded around 2 p.m. to the fire whose cause was suspected by officials on the scene to have been the result of a lightning strike. Two helicopters made multiple passes over the fire during the initial attack.
Incident Commander Jonathan Haun said all responders did an excellent job safely containing the blaze. Haun said the likelihood of an accident occurring increases with the high number of personnel on scene.
“It’s important for everyone to maintain communications, establish safety zones and escape routes,” said Haun. “Everybody did a great job today. The most important thing is everyone’s safety.”
