Community outreach donates to Mountain View Assisted Living
On the second Thursday of every month a small group of women meet at the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce office. And each month they decide what they can do to make their community a healthier place to live. Some, in fact most, go unnoticed, but they know that providing just one event could possibly change or make the difference in how or where they see their health care.
A couple years ago a gentleman asked about providing some information on diabetes, he had just been diagnosed as a diabetic and found nothing local. Working with Wade Holden PA, and our local facility, and Jennifer Troupe of St. Patrick’s Diabetes Care Center, an informative presentation on their diabetes program was presented.
Since, this group has presented speakers on Breast Cancer Awareness, and Medication Assistance for those who can’t afford their prescriptions or their deductibles is too high.
This group of women is RSVP – Retired Senior Volunteer Program –Community Outreach - a program for men and women 55 years or older, who use their life experiences and skills to answer the call of their neighbors in need. In Mineral County RSVP Volunteers work with various nonprofit organizations including Women In Timber, Mineral County Library, Mineral County Pioneer Council, Mineral County Senior Center, Mineral Community Hospital, Superior School, Mineral County Museum, Mineral County Chamber of Commerce, St. Regis School, DAV Mineral, DAV Sanders, to name a few.
RSVP – Community Outreach has been volunteering at the Mineral Community Hospital Meals Program for about three years. This group will pick up meals 5 days a week and deliver to shut ins in the Superior area. Delicious meals are provided by the Dietary Dept. at Mineral Community Hospital. If you are in need of a meal please contact the Superior Senior Center, or call Mary Jo at 822-4800.
RSVP – Community Outreach also volunteers at the Assisted Living Center in Superior. Linda Zimmer, longtime volunteer has been reading to the residents 3 days a week. That is when Linda noticed that the ALF was in need of some new comfortable chairs. Working with Monte Turner, Outreach Coordinator for Mineral Regional Health Center, and Wagner’s Home Furnishing - Not only did the ALF get one new recliner but they got two all from monies raised from the Books r Fun, and Mineral Community Hospital Guild Cookbooks.
RSVP Volunteers can volunteer a few hours a week or be “on call.” In one year, Western Montana RSVP Volunteers contributed over 29,000 hours of service to their local community. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, or have questions contact Mary Jo at 822-4800.
