Keith's Column: Storylines to look for this fall sports season
This week the halls of the three Mineral County Schools will fill with students and teachers as the 2013-2014 school year begins. Along with the beginning of school comes the beginning of fall sports and this year is set to be an exciting one for football and volleyball in the county.
Several storylines will reign supreme this fall, two of them will play out on the football field.
The Superior Bobcats will look to recapture the magic of last season’s championship run in their attempt to repeat. Head Coach Allen Labbe and his team of assistants are already running their squad through their paces and with returning standouts like Wyatt Zylawy, Anthony Parkin and Cole Karow chances are good the team will go deep into the postseason.
Alberton and St. Regis football merging into a united Clark Fork Timberwolves team will create a great deal of excitement on the six-man side of things this season. Questions of how the two groups of student-athletes will come together and work as a team will be quickly answered when they hit the field for their first game on September 7.
On the ladies side, this volleyball season looks to be just as exciting as the action on the gridiron. All three schools have several key players returning to the squads but it should be expected for a rising star or two to come out of the woodwork.
