Montana Shakespeare in the Parks comes to Plains
PLAINS – In its 41st season, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks came to Plains yet again to entertain the crowds on the lush green grass of the Sanders County Fairgrounds.
Mary Lou Hermes, a member of the Plains Woman’s Club, welcomed everyone to the free event.
“On behalf of Plains Woman’s Club, it is my pleasure to welcome this wonderful looking crowd to this year’s production of Shakespeare in the Park. I would particularly like to thank the 44 merchants around this county who contributed to make it possible for you all to come here free,” said Hermes.
A thank-you went out to Louise Lulack, who single-handedly organized the event and took care of the food and solicitation. According to Hermes, Lulack retired from the position this year and it took four people to do what Lulack did on her own.
“Go ahead and giver her a hand. She really cares about the arts in Sanders County and we are happy to see so many people. I think this is the biggest headcount we’ve seen,” said Hermes.
Steve Pebbles, the MSIP company manager, welcomed the crowd.
“We are now entering our fifth decade of bringing classic theater to every inch of Montana and occasionally sharing the love with Wyoming, North Dakota, Idaho and Washington – all for free,” exclaimed Pebbles to the enthusiastic crowd.
After thanking the sponsors, Pebbles introduced the show and welcomed the crowd to enjoy William Shakespeare’s Henry V.
The actors took to the stage, narrating as the scenes changed and committing themselves 100 percent to the production at hand.
Shakespeare wrote Henry V in the late 16th century and the play depicts the story of King Henry V of England, focusing on the events including the Battle of Agincourt and the Hundred Year’s War.
