Hawks and Horses clash in rivalry games

THOMPSON FALLS – Two rivalry games took place on Thursday, heating up the brisk night into a night of passion.

The Thompson Falls girls faced off with Plains, coming up short of to their rivals with a final score of 40 to 38 (Thompson Falls).

The third quarter was a close match ending with the Trotters following behind by one point. After the Trotters made a few freethrow baskets, Lady Hawk Kelsey Fitchett brought in a three pointer early into the quarter stretching their lead to two points. Trotter sophomore Carley VonHeeder sank in another three-pointer for Plains as the game continued to heat up quickly, with both sides feverishly cheering on the girls. The quarter continued with the Trotters shooting bucket shot after bucket shot and securing an eight-point lead.

Kayla Holmes from Plains sunk in a shot and kicked off the fourth quarter. The Lady Hawks matched her points in free throws, helping to keep the game on a level playing field.

Felicia Earhart brought in another three-points for the Trotters, bringing the score to 35 to 25 (Thompson Falls).

With Thompson Falls catching up quickly, the Trotters ladies continued to make freethrows, keeping just enough points to stay ahead.

With 34 seconds left in the quarter, Fitchett shot for three points, the Lady Hawks down by two. However, that was not enough with Plains bringing in point after point, winning the game 40 to 38.

The boys then took to the court, with Bluehawk Dominique Holt scoring two points, which was immediately countered by a Horseman, evening the score.

With Thompson Falls on a roll, the boys continued to throw in point after point, bringing their lead to 13 to 7.

The Horsemen fought back, and made a free throw followed by a shot from Aaron Baker.

The second quarter started out 16 to 10 (Plains). Bluehawk Ross Dalby secured three points as the rest of the quarter went into a freethrow battle for victory.

With shot after shot fired by both sides, the quick paced game got more intense.

In the third quarter, Plains was trailing behind by two points when Bluehawks Dalby and Greg Wadsworth secured more points for the team. Horseman Baker fired back as the teams once again started battling back and forth, closing the gap between the two teams.

In the last quarter of the game, Plains was behind by one point. Trotter Jeremiah Crawford bucketed a shot.

Bluehawk Baptiste Seynaeve put up back-to-back shots extending Thompson Falls’ lead to three points.

In another show of skill, the teams went freethrow for freethrow bringing the game to its end, a Bluehawk victory of 55 to 47.
