At the wrestling divisional tournament in Thompson Falls, three Superior Bobcat wrestlers fought their way to a chance to compete for a state title.

The Superior Boys Wrestling team headed up to Thompson Falls over the weekend to compete in the divisional tournament and left with three out of their four wrestlers qualifying for state.

“I thought the guys wrestled really well,” Coach Charlie Crabb said.

According to Coach Crabb, freshman Bridger LaPierre “dominated” the 130-pound weight class – winning all of his matches leading up to the finals by pinning his opponents.

LaPierre rose to the challenge during the final bout and won by a major decision (winning by over eight points) to win the tournament and become the number one seed in the upcoming state tournament.

Anthony Parkin continued to wrestle well and won the 105-pound weight class in convincing fashion. Teammate and fellow 105-pound wrestler Kenny Stockard came in third and also punched his ticket to state.

“Kenny even though he ended up with third wrestled really tough,” Coach Crabb said. “I saw some really good things from him this weekend.”

River Side narrowly missed qualifying for state with a fourth place finish in Thompson Falls.

Coach Crabb said he is looking forward to bringing the three wrestlers to the upcoming state tournament this weekend adding that all of them should place.

“We are looking forward to a great week of practice and hopefully will finish the season with a great weekend,” Coach Crabb said.

The State tournament kicks off Friday February 8 and concludes Saturday.
