What a gorgeous day on this first of February! Bright sunshine, with puffy clouds--even the birds sound “springy”. I remember my pussy willows popping out in January one year--I’ll have to check on that! This was my favorite month, when I was a 3rd grade teacher. It’s so full of special days--Groundhog’s Day, Valentine’s, Presidents, Black History, Children’s Dental Health--lots of projects and art work.

Speaking of special events, the Dixon School Ski Club will have their Sweetheart Dinner on Feb. 14 from 5 to 7. at the school gym. The menu is roast beef, with special treats for each guest. Call the school at 246-3566, for reservations, or get them at the Senior Center when it’s open. All ages are welcome, so come for a nice time and dine with your family and friends. And see the students dressed to serve politely!

Barbara Cripps, was an enthusiastic spectator watching the Lady Vikings 7th grade girls’ basketball team win their 7th game in a row!. Granddaughter, Chauntay Cripps, plays with the girls from Dixon/Charlo. Way to go, girls!

The latest pinochle scores show Darlene Solomon as high scorer, and Jerry Halter with low score. Don Siers had the most double pinochles The door prize went to Ruby Mocabee. Joyce Siers was quite excited to share 1000 Aces (in one hand), with partner Darlene Solomon. We enjoy having the players stay for dinner on the 4th Monday, after playing.

Meals are served each Monday at five and noon on Thursdays. Cook Diane Groh came up with a real delight last week--Breakfast for lunch! The quiche and baked French toast were so delicious..I hope to see this on the menu more often! This week’s menu is:

Thurs. Feb. 7 Polish sausage/kraut

Mon. Feb. 11 Chicken enchiladas

Thurs. Feb. 14 (Valentine’s Day) Roast beef

Everyone is welcome. Take-outs are available. We’d love to see you there!
