The St. Regis Tiger basketball team has come far this season – consistently improving and playing with heart for all four quarters.

On Thursday at Two Eagle River, the Tigers showed just how far they have come by responding to a huge deficit and coming into the final quarter of play firing on all cylinders.

“I was proud of the way our boys responded in the fourth quarter against Two Eagle,” Tiger Head Coach Byron Quinlan said. “We scored a season high 25 points in the fourth quarter, and a made it a contest in the end. Our team has really improved offensively, scoring 50 points against Two Eagle.”

Sophomore Dakota Wickham led the way in the fourth quarter and had 14-points for the Tigers in the contest against Two Eagle River. Wickham was followed by senior Spur Hill who had 12-points.

“I’m proud of the commitment our team has made to improving offensively,” Coach Quinlan said. “Ultimately, defense will allow us to compete with the other teams in our league, but we have to put points on the board too.”

On Friday the Tigers squared off against Darby at home and Coach Quinlan said he was once again “pleased” with his squads performance.

The two teams traded blows and the game was fast paced throughout, however according to Coach Quinlan the frantic fourth quarter in Two Eagle “left us out of gas at the end.”

Sophomore Andrew Managhan led the way for the Tigers with 12-points, followed by Hill who contributed eight.

Coach Quinlan said his squad is now starting to compete and had shown “huge” growth this season but will have to continue to build on the growth in the offseason.

“We’ve gotten better collectively as a team,” Coach Quinlan said. “Right now, our goal is to finish the season on a high note. We have two tough opponents this week in Superior and Hot Springs. Again, it will allow our team to face good competition, which will help us grow heading into the District tournament.”
