HOT SPRINGS - The Savage Heat and Lady Savage Heat battled on the home court against St. Regis on Saturday and came out on top with the leadership of their seniors.

Senior Dave Cross led the Savage Heat campaign with 21 points to the board. The 14-C match began with Cross posting eight of the 19 points of the first quarter, while the Tigers did not manage to put any points in for the first quarter. The second quarter, the Tigers put in five points, while the Savage Heat remained strong with 11 points total in the quarter. Cross, Jimmy Holland, and Pavlo Zahora all contributed points then. Going into the second half, the boys kept it going, firing shot after shot from seniors Cross, Wyatt Nagy, and Mike Gray. The powerful three posted 12 points total for the third quarter. During the fourth quarter, Lane Foster, senior Jaden Baker and Pavlo Zahora all posted points that kept the score distance strong, and the Savage Heat spirit bright. The Savage Heat took the game, 51-16.

For the ladies, the Lady Savage Heat had a tough fight against the scrappy yet talented St. Regis Lady Tigers.

The Lady Savage Heat had a slow start, scoring only two points in the first quarter, while the lady Tigers put up 12 points.

Hot Springs then took it to them in the second quarter, posting 20 points, while St. Regis managed 11 points, and so the Lady Savage Heat barely edged out going into halftime.

In the third quarter, both teams put in 11 points, and the battle continued, yet the Lady Savage Heat was able to pull away in the final quarter, and took the game, 44-39.

Sole senior Alyssa Foster posted 10 points to the game, while junior teammate Meara Schmiedbauer put up an epic 22 points from a nice slew of three-pointers, six in total.

Other contributing points came from Laurel Schmiedbauer with four points, and Josey Carr with eight.

The Lady Savage Heat will face up against county rivals Noxon Lady Red Devils on Thursday night in Ronan for a shot at the District title.
