Steve Temple, of the Mineral County Airport Board, presented the Mineral County Commissioners with a contract from Steling Engineering as part of the next portion of the Federal Aviation Administration grant process.

According to Temple, the airport board was able to negotiate with Steling to save 25 percent from the last engineering contract the airport signed with the firm.

“It (the negotiations) went better than our wildest dreams,” Temple said.

Temple added the FAA had already reviewed and approved the contract and the board formally recommended moving forward with the contract.

Commissioner Roman Zylawy asked Temple if the issue with the FAA requiring a snowplow to be at the airport was resolved as part of the contract negotiations.

“We have plenty of time to figure out the best solution before they award the grant,” Temple said.

Further discussion about solutions to the snowplow requirement as well as where new hangars would be built was had prior to the commissioners accepting the contract unanimously.
