PLAINS - The February meeting for the Sanders County Fair Commission was conducted Monday night at the fairgrounds and issues such as the “moneyless” decision, the 2013 Fair theme, and a chnage in the by-laws.

The lengthy agenda called for many issues to be covered, and the board was set on touching each item. One of the main items was a change in the by-laws, to move the fair commission meeting time from the third Monday of each month to the third Tuesday of each month. A motion was made, then seconded, and the decision was passed. To accomodate to audience and present public at the meeting, a slideshow was set up and run by the board for each agenda item.

The “moneyless” fair decision was motioned for and passed, resulting in a future installaion of coupon-driven food/drink sales at the 2013 Fair.

Soon after, the costs and profits of the PRCA Fair Rodeo were discussed, and according to the numbers brought before the commission from the 2012 Fair, the commission landed $5,000-plus in the red. A profit.

“I take pride in our Fair Rodeo,” Commission co-chair Chris McGuigan stated. “They out on a great rodeo, and it is a quality event. People come from all around to come to our fair, to the rodeos.”

Fair manager Mike Hashisaki confirmed that 90 percent of purchased rodeo tickets are by non-Sanders County residents.

The fair theme was voted on by both the commission and present public. Suggestions were presented on the slide show, and the theme of “Country Fresh Family Fun” was voted on.

The next fair commission meeting is to take place next month, but on the third Tuesday.
