The Superior Bobcat basketball team headed to Ronan with a first round bye in the District 14-C tournament last week and played their first game on Friday against the Charlo Vikings.

Utilizing tough defense and a multi-faceted attack on offense, the Bobcats had no trouble keeping up the pace with the Vikings and gaining momentum to take a ten point lead going into half (28-18).

In the third quarter Superior was able to hold off a strong surge by Charlo, outpacing the Vikings 13-12 to maintain their double figure lead. The fourth was all Bobcat basketball as Superior outscored Charlo 18-8 on their way to a 59-38 victory.

Zach Benda and Jarrod Tippens each had 13-points in the victory followed by Billy Smith who put up 10.

Benda also had eight rebounds in the victory, which earned Superior a spot in the upcoming divisional tournament in Hamilton.

On Saturday night the Bobcats faced fellow District 14-C powerhouse Arlee and the two teams gave fans a true championship game – trading blows back and forth with Superior narrowly in the lead going into the third quarter (26-25).

In the third quarter Arlee gained offensive momentum led by a trio of shooters, outscoring Superior 16-9.

The third quarter would ultimately make the difference and despite an 11-point fourth the Bobcats lost 49-46.

Tippens led the way for the Bobcats with 10-points followed by Smith who had eight. Clint Voll had six points and 13 rebounds for Superior.
