<p>Superior Lady Bobcat senior Nicole Stroot led the way with 20-points against Thompson Falls on Dec. 20 including winning the game in dramatic fashion with a final second lay-up and free throw.</p>
The Superior Lady Bobcats got off to a slow start on Dec. 20 against Thompson Falls but ended things in dramatic fashion.
Thompson Falls came out swinging in the first quarter, going on a 9-2 run.
Then it happened.
“Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp,” Coach Jeff Schultz yelled from the sidelines.
Immediately the Lady Bobcats went to a full court press and swarmed Thompson Falls, causing their offense to lose any momentum it had gained in the opening minutes.
Coach Schultz varied things on in-bound passes. Sometimes “chomp” was yelled, sometimes his squad backed off – creating even more confusion amongst the Bluehawks and giving Superior plenty of turnover opportunities.
The result of the first half defensive frenzy was Superior on top 33-26 at half.
But the Bluehawks weren’t done fighting.
In the second half Thompson Falls regained its lost rhythm and trimmed the margin down to just two points.
The teams traded blows in the fourth quarter and Thompson Falls made two clutch free-throws with less than ten seconds on the clock to give them a two-point edge over Superior.
Senior Nicole Stroot took the in-bound pass and turned on the afterburners – going the length of the court and getting fouled on a lay-up.
As the whistle blew for the foul and the final buzzer rang a swish raised above the roar of the crowd, which became frenzied as Stroot lined up for a winning free throw opportunity.
Silence hit the gym and Stroot went through her routine before draining the free throw and giving the Bobcats the one-point victory.
Stroot finished with 20-points followed by Danielle Ewoniuk with 17 and Kinzie Cooper with 16.
Superior won 77-76.
With their Dec. 22 win over Hot Springs, the Lady Bobcats improved their record to 3-3 on the season.
