Brown, Johnston take oath of office to begin term

MINERAL COUNTY - On Monday Dec. 31, as the county prepared to ring in the New Year, two recently elected officials were sworn in as part of regular meetings of the Mineral County Commissioners.
Clerk of the District Court Kathleen Brown, who won reelection, as well as newly elected Mineral County Commissioner Laurie Johnston were called to the front of the meeting room by Commissioner Roman Zylawy to be officially sworn in.
“If you will raise you right hand and repeat after me,” Commissioner Zylawy said.
Comissioner Johnston and Clerk of the District Court Brown raised their right hands and repeated the oath for elected officials in front of fellow county employees as well as members of the public.
After the oaths were completed County Clerk and Recorder Staci Hayes presented the official documentation to Johnston and Brown. After the two signed the document, Commissioners Zylawy and Duane Simons signed as well.
In his final act as a Mineral County Commissioner, Clark Conrow signed both documents – ending his term in the commissioner’s office.
With the pomp and circumstance concluded a potluck was held in the meeting room for attendees.
Commissioner Johnston’s first day as a county commissioner took place Jan. 7.
