ST. REGIS - The St. Regis Lady Tiger basketball squad was tested early on Thursday when they headed to Darby.

In the first, the Lady Tigers got off to a slow start – finding themselves down 19-8 after Darby started things off with an 18-0 run.

“I thought we learned a valuable lesson at Darby on Thursday,” Head Coach Damian Droessler said. “We cannot come out slow against a good team. When you fall into an 18-0 hole to start the game, it makes for a tough climb out.”

St. Regis was able to stay in the game, and at one point were within ten of Darby. However, the surge was not enough to grab the win.

The Lady Tigers lost 54-36 and were led by Pilar Cantrell-Field, who had 22-points,

On Friday night in St. Regis, the Lady Tigers learned their lesson and started off strong against Two Eagle River.

In the first, St. Regis outpaced Two Eagle 33-6 with freshman Pilar Cantrell-Field leading the way with 14-points.

St. Regis continued the frenzied pace, capitalizing on turnovers and fast break points to maintain their lead.

The Lady Tigers won 55-14 to pull to an even 4-4 record on the season (2-2 in league play) and were led by Cantrell-Field who had 25-points.

Arianna Jones and Gabby Moeller each had nine-points in the victory.

The Lady Tigers face two challenging opponents this week in Superior and Hot Springs, starting off on Thursday when they head down the interstate to take on the Lady Bobcats.

“This week is going to be a tough week as we take on Superior, who is a very solid team,” Coach Droessler said. “We have to find a way to slow them down and Jeff will have his girls ready to play as he always does.”

Coach Droessler also mentioned that Saturday’s home game against Hot Springs will be a challenge since they have lost some “extremely close” games and are “hungry” for a win.
